John Bolton, the former national security advisor, stated that he was “disturbed” by President Joe Biden’s recent warnings about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threats to deploy nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
“I believe that whenever we consider the potential use of nuclear weapons, we must take it seriously. Bolton told CBS News on Friday, “But I also think we need to have a clear head about it.” In addition, I believe the president exaggerated the intensity of the current situation.
“Since Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis, we have not faced the possibility of Armageddon,” the president remarked Thursday, stressing that he did not believe there was a method to use tactical nuclear weapons without causing Armageddon.
Bolton stated, “I was very troubled when he added, ‘You know, I can’t picture the use of a tactical nuclear weapon not leading to Armageddon.’” “This chain of causality extends from the demonstration use of a tactical nuclear bomb that Vladimir Putin is currently threatening to an exchange of nuclear salvos between the United States and Russia.”
Putin announced a partial mobilization of the military last month, increasing the crisis, and threatening to deploy nuclear weapons.
Putin stated in his September address, “The geographical integrity of our homeland, our independence, and our freedom shall be secured with every available resource.” “Those who want to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should be aware that the winds can shift in their favor.”
Officials, including as the defense minister of Latvia, asserted that Putin was bluffing and making the threats to intimidate Western nations.
Putin would like us to believe it is inevitable despite the fact that it is not inevitable. He’d want to see others nervous. He is trying to discourage us. After his invasion of the Ukraine, he has already done this a number of times. Each time, he has been bluffing,” Bolton stated during his interview with CBS News.
He continued, “There is a potential of nuclear weapon usage here.” Although we are keeping a close eye on it, I do not believe the situation is ripe for this to occur. However, it is essential that the West not be deterred by Putin’s nuclear threat.
The Guardian reported on Friday that White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre stated there is no evidence that Russia is preparing to deploy nuclear weapons.
