Joe Biden Appoints Two Nigerian-Americans as Advisors: Boosting Diaspora Engagement
U.S. President Joe Biden has announced the appointment of two Nigerian-Americans, Osagie Imasogie and Chiney Ogwumike, as advisers.
They are among the 12 members selected for the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States, according to an official announcement on the White House website.
Nigerian Diaspora Talent in the Advisory Council
Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised the appointments, noting that they serve as motivation for other Nigerians.
She expressed her appreciation for the nomination of these two distinguished individuals to the 12-member advisory council.
Chiney Ogwumike: An Accomplished WNBA Star and ESPN Commentator
Chiney Ogwumike boasts an impressive career as a two-time WNBA All-Star for the Los Angeles Sparks. She is not only a basketball standout but also a full-time, multi-platform ESPN commentator and NBA analyst. Additionally, she holds the distinction of being the 2014 WNBA Rookie of the Year.
Ogwumike pursued her education at Stanford University, where she earned a degree in International Relations under the mentorship of Dr. Condoleezza Rice.
Her achievements extend beyond the court, as she became the first Black woman to host a national daily sports-talk radio show in August 2020.
Furthermore, she holds the title of Executive Producer, responsible for producing an ESPN Films documentary titled “144,” focusing on the 2020 WNBA season. Her contributions have earned her recognition as a 2021 Forbes 30 under 30 honoree.
Osagie Imasogie: A Notable Investment Figure and Private Equity Expert
Osagie Imasogie, another appointee to the advisory council, holds the position of Chairman at the Investment Bank and SEC/FINRA registered Broker-Dealer, Quoin Capital and Quoin Advisors.
He is also a co-founder of PIPV Capital, a private equity firm specializing in the life sciences sector, with investments exceeding $1 billion in the industry.
Imasogie’s educational background includes LLM degrees from prestigious institutions, the London School of Economics and the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
These appointments highlight the significant contributions of Nigerian-Americans in various fields and their involvement in shaping U.S. policy on African diaspora engagement.
