Jockey Daniel Muscutt wins on Deauville Legend

Daniel Muscutt is a jockey by profession. Deauville Legend (5/2) provided Daniel Muscutt with his greatest victory to date, capturing the Group Two Great Voltiguer Stakes for trainer James Ferguson.

Muscutt had to wait for a gap to open between stablemate El Bodegon and Secret State for the Charlie Appleby squad, as he was always much behind the early leader Aikhal.

Ineligible for the St. Leger, the three-year-old gelding seized command with relative ease two furlongs from the finish line, eventually winning by just under three lengths, with Secret State in second and El Bodegon a further length and a half behind in third.

Chaldean (7/2) and Ryan Moore defeated Indestructible to win the Group Three Tattersalls Acomb Stakes for the red-hot Andrew Balding stable.

With a furlong remaining, Moore nudged the Juddmonte son of Frankel into the lead, but he was temporarily joined and potentially surpassed by the Amo Racing runner-up trained by Michael O’Callaghan.

Chaldean was game under pressure for Moore, finding for pressure and defeating Indestructible and Mill Stream, who ended timidly in fourth and fifth, respectively, behind Ed Bethell’s Oviedo in third.

Barry Mahon, the racing manager at Juddmonte, exclaimed, “I’m delighted, he’s a beautiful horse. Since joining him in February, Andrew has been really satisfied. He is genuine and has performed admirably; he was courageous.

“Ryan believes he will run a mile in his next start, which is terrific, so we’ll get him home and see what’s available before making a decision.

We won’t over-race him this year, as he was born in mid-May.

Bergerac (22/1) and Tom Eaves edged off King Of Stars and Atalis Bay in a three-way picture finish to win the inaugural Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap on the Knavesmire for trainer Kevin Ryan.

The eventual runner-up, King Of Stars, appeared to be the likely winner two furlongs out, before drifting toward the inner rail, but the winner, drawn in stall 2, raced home under the Eaves drive.

Trainer Ryan commented after the race, “It’s terrific to get off to a winning start at this meeting.

“The horse is ultra-consistent and the blinkers have helped. It aided him and helped him focus, since he was possibly storing a bit for himself. Today, he laid everything on the table.

“I joked to Tom that I had walked it the night before and that the opposite side was the place to be. There was no need in complicating everything, because nobody knows where to be on the first day of the meeting. It worked out perfectly because he is a quick horse.
