Jets sign Allen Lazard for $44m four year deal

The New York Jets have landed a new player, Allen Lazard, who has been one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets. Lazard, who played the first five years of his career with the Packers, has signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets, according to multiple reports.

With Rodgers as his quarterback, Lazard has made 169 career receptions for 2,236 yards and 20 touchdowns. He had his best statistical season in 2022 with 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns.

While Lazard’s arrival to the Jets is exciting news, it remains to be seen if it means that Rodgers will also join the team. Lazard was a free agent that Rodgers had hoped the Jets could sign, and he remains one of his favorite targets.

However, even without Rodgers in the equation, Lazard makes sense for the Jets, who are expected to release Corey Davis.

At 6-foot-5, Lazard will provide a big target for whoever is throwing the ball for the Jets. He also has a reputation as a good blocker, which is something that the Jets need for their running scheme.

Nathaniel Hackett, the Jets’ new offensive coordinator, knows Lazard from his three years in the same position in Green Bay, and his input likely played a role in the decision to sign Lazard.

Assuming Davis is released as expected, the Jets’ wide receiver room will have Lazard, Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, and Denzel Mims in it.

The Jets are also expected to pursue another one of Rodgers’ favorite targets, longtime Packers receiver Randall Cobb.

Although ESPN has reported that Rodgers would like the Jets to sign Odell Beckham Jr., there is no indication that the Jets are currently pursuing him.
