Jenna Ortega reveals she initially rejected role in ‘Wednesday’ several times before signing on

Jenna Ortega, who rose to fame after her performance in the popular Netflix series Wednesday, has revealed that she rejected the role multiple times before finally accepting it.

The show, which is a supernatural comedy horror series directed by Tim Burton, tells the story of a young Wednesday Addams as she navigates high school.

In its first week, Wednesday surpassed the record set by Stranger Things for the most amount of streaming hours watched on Netflix. The show has since become the second most-watched English-language series on the platform.

Ortega’s dance scene in the fourth episode of the show has become incredibly popular, with fans all around the world, including Lady Gaga, creating their own versions on TikTok.

However, Ortega has admitted that she initially declined the role due to her desire to focus on film rather than TV.

The actress, who was a child star on the Disney Channel, has mostly landed roles in horror shows since then, including Insidious: Chapter 2, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, American Carnage, You Season 2, and most recently, Scream VI. Many fans now refer to her as her generation’s “scream queen.”

When asked why she eventually decided to accept the role in Wednesday, Ortega explained that it was because of the opportunity to work with Tim Burton.

Despite this, she still hesitated before finally signing on to the project. Ortega said, “Tim is such a legend, and we just happened to get along very well. But even then I said, ‘Ah, no — I think I’m OK,’ a couple [more] times.”
