IVF is lulling women into a false feeling of security, according to experts

A world-renowned specialist has warned that women are being duped into believing that IVF treatment will enable them to become middle-aged moms.

Delaying parenthood as a result, according to Professor Cornelis Lambalk, editor-in-chief of the respected medical journal Human Reproduction, is a dangerous option.

He was replying to a recent Australian study published in the journal Human Reproduction, which indicated that the use of “assisted reproductive technology” (ART) in women over 40 had increased by more than half in the last decade.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection are two examples of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) (ICSI).

Between 2009 and 2019, the number of IVF treatments for women over 40 in the United Kingdom increased by 41%, from roughly 10,200 to 14,400.

Prof Lambalk, a gynaecologist at Amsterdam University Medical Centres in the Netherlands, said that while ART was “extremely good for many reproductive issues,” it was “not definitely the treatment of choice for the natural age-related reduction in fertility” because of its limited effectiveness.
