Lavinia Trematerra from Naples, south-western Italy, was playing in the hotel courtyard with a youngster when the unfixed statue crashed onto her off the pedestal it had sat atop for around twenty years.

The fatal tragedy occurred in Munich, south-western Germany, approximately 7.30 p.m. on Friday. According to stories, she was crushed by the statue in plain view of her father.

Lavinia Trematerra, age seven, from Naples, southern Italy, was playing in the hotel courtyard with another youngster when the unfixed statue fell on top of her from the pedestal it had been perched on for almost twenty years.

Three hotel guests heard Lavinia’s screams, rushed to her rescue, and removed the statue from her body.

While transporting the child to a nearby hospital, paramedics attempted to resuscitate her at the scene in the Isarvorstadt neighborhood of Munich.

Almost two hours later, however, Lavinia succumbed to her injuries.

The statue weighted approximately 200 kilograms (441 lb) and stood 1.4 meters (4.6 ft) tall, according to the Munich Police, who have opened an inquiry.

According to the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, the monument was placed on a 40 by 40 centimeter concrete slab (1.3ft by 1.3ft).

Her mother, attorney Valentina Poggi, posted on social media just hours after the accident: ‘You are and will always be our angel. Rest in peace, our life’s love.

Her father, also a lawyer, Michele Trematerra, wrote, “Our life has altered.”

The police are investigating the incident and will investigate accusations that Lavinia may have climbed upon the statue before to its collapse.
