In January, will Chiefs finally pounce on Mmodi?

During the previous preseason, it was widely rumoured that Bafana Bafana playmaker Pule Mmodi was one of the latest talents on Kaizer Chiefs’ wanted list. However, it soon became clear that he would remain with Golden Arrows after discussions stalled.

Mmodi ultimately refocused his efforts at Arrows, rediscovered his form, and fought his way onto the Bafana Bafana radar.

Mmodi will soon be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club, as his Abafana Bes’thende deal will expire in June 2023.

“I believe I have discussed this before, but I will discuss it again today. Pule may leave the club at any time if he receives an acceptable offer. The objective is not to retain Pule here, according to Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi, as quoted by Goal.com.

“Perhaps I need to make it obvious that he will be sold to any club that wants him if there is a possibility for the club to make money. But as long as he is here, i.e., as long as he is our player, we are powerless. We will cooperate with him because he is prepared to work with us as things stand.”

Intriguingly, the player’s agent earlier told Goal.com that the player’s future will only be considered during the January 2023 transfer window, leaving the door wide open for fresh developments.

According to edition 1294 of Soccer Laduma, Chiefs were not the only team to exhibit interest in Mmodi; AmaZulu was also rumored to have inquired about his talents, but this has since died down.

A few months back, Mmodi spoke up on his emotions after the Chiefs move didn’t materialise.

“I was never disturbed. Mmodi stated, “Since the move did not occur, I promised myself I would work hard and that there was nothing I could do.” Initially, however, I was depressed, but there was nothing I could do.

TO BE DETERMINED IS WHETHER MMODI COULD ULTIMATELY BE PART OF THE REBUILT CHIEFS TEAM.
Although several rumors stated Mmodi had requested a transfer, his agent always denied this.
