Ibnu Rizwan has been alleged of reckless driving.

After running over and killing a man while operating his Volkswagen Polo, a Covid scientist for Public Health England is now being charged with reckless driving.

Ibnu Rizwan, a Wandsworth resident, is accused of operating a vehicle recklessly and killing David Joseph Evans.

The 28-year-old is accused of operating his vehicle recklessly on August 8, 2017, when he collided with Mr. Evans in Minories, in the City of London.

Four days later, Mr. Evans passed away in the hospital from his wounds.

Speaking merely to confirm his name and address while appearing before the Old Bailey today, Rizwan wore a dapper blue suit and tie.

He had earlier entered a guilty plea to the less serious charge of causing death by negligent driving, but he has not yet done so for the more serious accusation.

“The question is whether there is sufficient evidence to demonstrate dangerous driving as opposed to careless driving,” defense attorney David Burgess said.

Rizwan obtained a Master of Research in Biomedical Sciences with distinction from St. George’s University of London, according to his LinkedIn profile.

It says he is currently employed by Public Health England as a “scientist within the COVID-19 incidence response team.”
