Hotel Guest Considers Legal Action After Stranger Gets Key to Room, Climbs into Bed

A man who stayed at the four-star Hunton Park Hotel in Hertfordshire has claimed that a stranger was given a key to his room and got undressed and climbed into his bed.

Mason Sanders said that he was woken up by movement around 3:50 am on March 17 and thought it was his partner letting himself into the room after a late shift.

However, he soon realised it was a stranger who was drunk and had climbed into his bed.

Sanders kicked the man out and went straight down to reception to complain, but he says the hotel management’s response has not been adequate, and he is considering taking legal action.

Sanders booked a double bed room at the hotel for March 16, paying £60 for the stay, which he said he decided to do since his home was being renovated.

Sanders had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant before going to sleep at 11 pm.

He claims that when he woke up at around 3.50 am, he found a drunk man in his bed, whom he initially thought was his partner.

Sanders immediately shouted at the intruder, and the man fled to the bathroom, where he vomited before collecting his clothes and running down the hallway.

Sanders then went to the reception to complain, and he claims that the staff confirmed that the man was given a key to his room without answering any security questions about who he was.

He escalated his complaint to the hotel management the next day, and he was offered a refund for his stay, and his bar tab from the previous evening was wiped off.

However, Sanders said that the hotel’s response was not adequate compensation for what happened, and he is preparing to sue Countrywide Hotels over the incident.

Sanders said that he has already sought legal representation and is preparing to sue the hotel chain as they need to be held accountable.

He also questioned the safeguarding and security measures in place to protect guests, adding that men can be just as vulnerable as women in scenarios like these.

Countrywide Hotels, which manages Hunton Park Hotel, did not respond to a request for comment.

The Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed a call was made to report the incident, but the caller was told it was not a police matter and would instead be something for the hotel to deal with itself.
