HM Treasury announces the appointment of Ashley Alder as Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)

Today, Friday, July 8, HM Treasury confirmed Ashley Alder’s selection as the new Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Charles Randell left his position as Chair in May 2022, and Mr. Alder is anticipated to take up that position in January 2023, succeeding Richard Lloyd.

The former lawyer is currently the CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong, a position she has held since October 2011, and she is also the newly elected Chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions, the body that establishes international standards for the regulation of the securities markets. At Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, he had previously held senior positions.

Ashley Alder said:

‘It’s a great privilege to have the opportunity to Chair the FCA, whose core work is so vital to the financial health of consumers.

‘I also value the opportunity to contribute to a crucial phase in the FCA’s history as it helps chart the UK’s post-Brexit future as a global financial centre which continues to support innovation and competition through its own world-leading regulatory standards.

‘I look forward to working with FCA colleagues as they deliver on their mission.’

Liam Coleman and Dr. Alice Maynard have been reappointed to the FCA Board, according to HM Treasury. On November 5, 2022, they will begin their second three-year terms as non-executive directors.

Currently serving as the chairman of the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Liam Coleman has held a number of positions in the retail, commercial, and wholesale banking sectors.

Dr. Alice Maynard has spent the last 30 years working in the field of diversity and inclusion. In addition to her advisory and board positions, she also coaches senior leaders in inclusive leadership.
