A heroic dog named Blue rescued a one-year-old baby named Chantal from a burning home in Detroit. The child was trapped in her playpen on the second floor of a multi-family unit when a fire broke out on February 21st.

The blaze was started by a child from the apartment below, who accidentally set a mattress ablaze while playing with a lighter. Blue, a pitbull-Labrador-mix rescue dog, ran to alert firefighters and then went back into the burning building to show them the baby’s location, ultimately saving her life.

Chantal’s mother, Janet Kelly, called Blue her “real-life Lassie” and said he was very protective of their family. Kelly said that once the tenants ran to inform the families in the unit to flee, the house had already burnt down.

Fortunately, no one was injured, but Kelly lost everything. She was forced to live in her van with her four children, ranging in age from 1 to 9 years old, as she couldn’t stay at a shelter with her animals.

Kelly created a GoFundMe as a last resort to get back on her feet. The fundraiser received many donations, including $2,500 from someone named Kristen Bell, but it’s unclear if this is the same actress from the Disney film Frozen.

As of Thursday, the fundraiser had garnered a total of $97,694, and Kelly expressed her gratitude to her supporters, saying that “no more donations are needed.” She plans to use the funds to secure a new home for her family.
