Heavy Snow Warning Issued

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for parts of mid Wales due to forecasts of heavy snowfall, with some areas expected to receive as much as 30cm of snow.

The warning area is mainly in the Powys region, where heavy snowfall has already been reported.

The warning states that snow is expected to become persistent and heavy again from Thursday afternoon into early Friday, with many places likely to see between 10-20cm of snow, and the possibility of up to 30cm falling over higher ground above 200 metres.

Additionally, freezing rain is possible, which could result in icy conditions in the southern part of the warning area, leading to further hazards for infrastructure and travel.

Nearly 300 schools in Wales have been closed on Thursday as a result of the heavy snowfall.

The amber warning will be in place from midday on Thursday until 9am on Friday. Meanwhile, northern England also has an amber warning in place.
