Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 16 years for raping a woman in 2013

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping an Italian model in Los Angeles in 2013, after appearing in court on Thursday where he was denied a request for a new trial by Judge Lisa B. Lench.

The victim, identified as Jane Doe 1, gave an impact statement before Weinstein addressed the court, pleading for leniency and maintaining his innocence.

During the trial, Jane Doe 1 testified that Weinstein forced her to orally copulate him and raped her in a hotel room in February 2013. Weinstein’s defense team argued for a new trial on the grounds that Jane Doe had a financial motive to testify against him.

Weinstein was found guilty of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, and sexual penetration by a foreign object, but a mistrial was declared on other charges involving Jane Doe 2 and Jane Doe 4. Weinstein was also found not guilty of sexual battery by restraint of Jane Doe 3.

The case is still ongoing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
