The deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has advised Nigerians to vote for genuine leaders based on their successes as the general elections for 2023 approach in order to create a country that is prosperous for everyone.
The Deputy Governor delivered this warning today at the Raddison Blu Hotel, GRA, Lagos, as part of the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT) Good Governance Workshop with the theme: “Credible Leadership and Good Governance – From Home to Hero.”
In order to discover long-term answers to the many problems the nation is now experiencing, Dr. Hamzat said that effective governance is not about emotions or trial and error and that Nigerians must elect leaders who have a strong track record and are not influenced by emotions.
“Governance is not about emotions or trial and error,” he said. We need to consider what our true goals are. We must have a coincidence of desires in Nigeria now. We must consent to this and be willing to make sacrifices for our kids. It is not about everyone believing they have the answers to the nation’s problems. We need to put an end to our self-attack. The collaboration is necessary.
Invoking Thomas Jefferson, the third American president, who once declared that “No country will grow unless its inhabitants are properly informed,” the Deputy Governor urged Nigerians to be aware and to double-check any information they get to avoid being duped by fabricated data and outright falsehoods.
He said that Nigerians must band together to address the country’s issues and added that all people must cooperate and share the same goals.
The Deputy Governor urged parents to look after their kids as they have abandoned their duties as parents have failed to provide them with the necessary training and upbringing, citing the disintegration of the family structure as one of the major issues facing the country. He said that kids are no longer studying and are instead searching for fast money-making opportunities. “We need to be pragmatic and aware of the issue. Our neglect of our kids is the root of our issue. As parents, both we moms and dads have abandoned our kids. Today’s truth is that there is no longer any order in our families or classrooms, according to Hamzat.
Therefore, he gave religious organizations the responsibility of working to influence young people’s attitudes via their sermons on morality and virtues, and he urged them to also urge the public to be more godly.
The former governor of Kano State, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, who was represented by Alhaji Olarewaju Kamaal, earlier stressed the importance of restoring and strengthening family values in the nation in his presentation, “It Takes a Village to Raise a Hero: Imperative for Community and Religious Leaders,” which had the title.
He urged religious leaders and academics to advise Nigerians to be more devoted to God and to pray for their leaders, claiming that the numerous social vices in the nation are caused by the dissolution of the family unit, which is the cornerstone of any community.
The event, which was the second in a series of its Good Governance Workshops, was in furtherance of the society’s purpose to promote good governance in the nation for the benefit of everyone, according to Mr. Niyi Yussuf, President of the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT).
According to the President, if there is excellent administration in the nation, there would be answers to the many problems the country is now experiencing.
As the initial socializational unit, the family must serve as the cornerstone for good government, according to Yussuf, who added that NASFAT would continue to promote good governance in the nation.
