GOVERNOR ABIODUN INSPECTS ROAD PROJECTS IN ABEOKUTA METROPOLIS, ILISHAN-AGO IWOYE ROAD – ASSURES PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO PEOPLE’S WELFARE

Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, visited the Abeokuta city on Saturday to inspect two major road projects being carried out by his administration.

He also visited the Ilishan in Ikenne Local Government and the University town of Ago Iwoye in Ijebu North Local Government to inspect the repair of the linkroad.

The governor paid an inspection visit to the 5.3-kilometer Lafenwa-Rounda and 5.7-kilometer Kemta-Somorin roads, accompanied by cabinet members and other government officials, to assess the degree of work.

Addressing residents and market women in Lafenwa, Abiodun emphasized his administration’s commitment to deal mercilessly with anyone found disrupting the state’s peace.

He criticized miscreants’ disruptions at the market and promised to deal severely with anyone caught disrupting the peace in the area.

The governor implored parents and guardians to admonish their children and wards who are involved in the market disturbances to refrain from such acts or face the full wrath of the law.

“The last time I came here, I was told that miscreants were bothering the people and I called for the change of the Divisional Police Officer; I understand that this present Divisional Police Officer is doing much better than the other one.

“However, I am going to complement his efforts with the operatives of the Amotekun Corps and the OPMESA, and I am hereby warning that any parent of any miscreant should take note.

“If I catch any miscreant that is disturbing the peace of traders, business men and women in this market, I will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law”, Abiodun stated.

He made it known that once the drainage along the road was completed, flooding would be a thing of the past because the drainages were built in such a way that the volume of rainwater would be easily accommodated.

Abiodun also promised the public that his administration would endeavor to restore power to the famous Lafenwa market in the next two months.

“The market men and women have brought it to my attention that their expectation is to ensure that this drain is wide enough to carry the body of water all the way to the Ogun River, and I have assured them that the drain will be 1m by 1m, just like the one at the adjacent side of the road and it will be wide enough to carry the volume of water to Ogun River and this place will cease to flood.

“It has also been brought to my attention that there is no power in Lafenwa Market and I have made a promise to the traders that in the next 60 days, there will be power in Lafenwa market,” the governor added.

Alhaja Rashidat Oyedele and Alhaji Akeem Alalade, speaking on behalf of the traders, praised the governor for resurrecting the Lafenwa-Roundabout road, which had been abandoned by the previous administration, and pledged the traders’ support for the governor’s second term ambition.

After visiting the Kemta-Somorin Bye Pass road, Abiodun told reporters that his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare of the state’s citizens.

He explained that the route is an important by-pass that would help to relieve congestion on Obantoko Road, which is always congested.

Abiodun, who also thanked the locals for the support they gave the contractors, vowed that the road will be finished shortly.

Earlier, Chief Gbeje Orobiyi, the Baale of Itoko-Ilugun Community, thanked the governor for repairing the road, which he said had been in a bad state for years.

He did say, however, that the economy of the area has greatly improved since the road’s construction began.
