Gov. Kemp Expresses Grief Over U.S. Military Base Strike Near Syria Border

Lawmakers from Georgia, including Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Rep. Buddy Carter, mourned the loss of the soldiers from their state.

Sanders’ father, Shawn Sanders, expressed gratitude for the respect shown to Kennedy, while Moffett’s mother, Regina RaMo, described the day as one of the saddest in her life, mourning the loss of her firstborn.

Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh revealed that all three soldiers were part of the 718th Engineer Company, a U.S. Army Reserve unit based in Fort Moore, Georgia.

Waycross city, where Sanders hailed from, expressed deep sadness at the passing of Kennedy, pledging additional tributes in honor of her sacrifice.

U.S. President Biden Responds:

President Joe Biden issued a statement on Sunday, vowing a response to the drone strike. He mourned the fallen soldiers and attributed the attack to radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq.

Biden praised the soldiers for embodying the best of the nation, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to the fight against terrorism.

As of Sunday morning, Iran and its proxies are the main suspects in the drone strike. Reports suggest that the U.S. failed to prevent the attack due to confusion between an enemy drone and a returning U.S. drone.

The strike, launched by a Tehran-backed militia from Iraq, has heightened tensions in the region, with President Biden promising a response.
