Nyuwar and Jessu communities of Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State has commended the succor brought to them by the Save Nigeria-Africa, SNAP-Care Project, after over one thousand of its people were displaced by attacks on their communities.
The commendation was offered by traditional rulers from both communities in Nyuwar after the group presented various food and non-food items to the people in the affected communities.
The items presented are 400 bags of rice, 400 bags of beans, 399 bags of maize, 47 cartons of tomato paste, 100 cartons of seasoning, 500 blankets, 40 rolls of mats, 27 bags of salt, and 933 mattresses.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SNAP-Care Project, Mr.
Jazeel Jamil Ibrahim, said it was among the goals of the humanitarian-driven organisation to provide humanitarian support to disaster-ravaged communities in Nigeria and Africa, consequently providing succor to the people in Nyuwar and Jessu in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Mr.
Ibrahim said the intervention in the two communities became possible through the support of relevant government authorities, such as President Muhammadu Buhari, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and Disaster Management, among others.
He equally thanked the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, NEMA for its support in the provision and distribution of the relief materials to the two communities.
Those who represented their communities to show appreciation to SNAP-Care Project are the National Chairman of Nyuwan Development Association, Mr.
Galiyos Zulum, While the District Head of Jessu, Mr.
Laban Binos, was represented by the Village Head of Sabon Layi, Jessu District, Mr.
Bussa Zwaye, the Village Head of Blodi Mora, Mr.
Yohanna Istifanus, who represented the District Head of Nyuwar, Mr.
James Pisaghi, as well as Alhaji Abdullahi Gombi, who represented the Paramount Ruler of the Waja Tribe, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma Muhammad, all thanked SNAP-Care Project for its timely intervention.
For the National Chairman of Nyuwan Development Association, Mr.
Zulum said both districts would form a committee, which would sit to draft modalities for the equitable distribution of the relief materials to ensure that the relief materials reached the actual beneficiaries.
The speakers, who took turns to thank the humanitarian non-governmental organisation for the intervention, all called for measures to be deployed for lasting peace in the area, saying without peace, no meaningful development would take place.
Mr.
Zulum has also recommended that a judicial commission of inquiry to dig out the root causes of the recurring crisis between the Lunguda and Waja people, because over 2, 000 people had been displaced and 21 others had been killed in the crisis.
“ We appeal to the government to come in and set up a high-powered judicial commission of inquiry, secondly, all the houses destroyed, we appeal that there should be a technical assessment committee to assess all these houses destroyed and if possible to compensate accordingly,” said Mr.
Zulum.
Two of the beneficiaries thanked the humanitarian non-governmental organisation for coming to give them relief, praying that the time would come for hostilities to stop and there would be no need for relief to be brought to them.
They want the return of peace and brotherliness between the two tribes, the Lunguda and Waja.
