Gillibrand is “one of the laziest, most forgettable unaccomplished senators in the country” – Zeldin

Former Representative Lee Zeldin spoke harshly about New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday.

During a panel focused on how Republicans can campaign more effectively, Zeldin referred to Gillibrand as “one of the laziest, most forgettable unaccomplished senators in the country” and said that she is wasting a Senate seat in New York. He also accused her of not doing a good job representing all New Yorkers.

Gillibrand has long been accused of being absent from her job, and Zeldin’s comments have already led her to fundraise off the possibility of a challenge from him in her 2024 re-election campaign.

Zeldin, who is a former Long Island Congressman and 2022 Republican gubernatorial candidate, received a warm reception at the conference.

Panel moderator Hogan Gidley, a former Trump White House deputy press secretary, praised Zeldin for his strong gubernatorial run and credited him with helping Republicans narrowly reclaim the House in the 2022 midterms.

Zeldin has not ruled out a run against Gillibrand, but has not made any official announcements about his plans.

Zeldin’s comments about Gillibrand have sparked controversy, with some criticizing him for being disrespectful and others supporting his critique of her job performance.

Gillibrand’s office has not yet responded to the comments. Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that Zeldin has gained significant attention and support from the Republican Party, and his potential challenge to Gillibrand could be a major factor in the 2024 election cycle.
