A German paraglider who apparently sustained critical injuries after colliding with Lion’s Head in Cape Town has reportedly passed away.

The paraglider, believed to be in his forties, was hospitalized on January 10 in the afternoon.

As previously reported, ER24 was dispatched to Lion’s Head shortly before 14:00 and discovered a man jammed between two large boulders and being treated by witnesses.

The individual received significant brain injuries and was in critical condition, as determined by the medics who examined him.

The individual was treated and supplied with advanced life support techniques before being evacuated to Groote Schuur Hospital for emergency care by the AMS Medical Helicopter.

The police spokesperson FC Van Wyk confirmed to IOL that Woodstock police were investigating an inquest case and that the 47-year-old foreign national died at a local hospital at 5 p.m. on Wednesday following a paragliding incident.

In a different event that occurred in November 2022, tandem paragliders were forced to land on Sea Point Main Road after launching in poor weather.

Local musician Chad Saiman posted a video of the incident to his Twitter page, stating that he witnessed it while parking in Sea Point.

“The landing appeared to be managed given the conditions. Not sure if this will be launched or approved with the current weather,” he wrote.

As the tandem paragliders land in the video, they look to collide with a vehicle.
