George Paton is an American football executive who is the general manager of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). Paton previously served as the assistant general manager and vice president of player personnel for the Minnesota Vikings and served with the Vikings in various executive roles for 14 seasons.

Paton began his NFL career as a scout for the Chicago Bears before serving as the director of pro personnel for the Miami Dolphins from 2001 to 2006 and joining the Vikings in 2007. Paton played college football at UCLA and later professionally in Europe in the Austrian Football League and Italian Football League.

George Paton was born on May 5, 1970 (age 52 years) in La Cañada Flintridge, California, United States. He is the son of a high school football coach. Paton played quarterback at Loyola High School (Los Angeles) and defensive back at UCLA from 1988 to 1991, being a part of a pair of Bruin bowl teams. While at UCLA, Paton earned a bachelor’s degree in history.

Career

In 1992, George Paton participated in the Italian Football League. Paton represented the Vienna Vikings in the Austrian Football League in 1993. The group made it to the league’s semifinals.

In the scouting and personnel division of the Chicago Bears, Paton started his executive career in 1997. He finally advanced to the rank of assistant director of pro personnel in 2000. Paton joined the Miami Dolphins in 2001 as their director of professional personnel.

In 2007, Rick Spielman, the Vikings vice president of player personnel, and Paton, who had previously worked together in Miami and Chicago, were reunited when Paton was appointed as the director of player personnel for the Minnesota Vikings. In 2012, Paton was elevated to the position of assistant general manager after Spielman’s promotion to general manager of the Vikings.

Vice President of Player Personnel was added to Paton’s responsibilities for the 2019 season. Paton was appointed the Denver Broncos’ general manager on January 12, 2021.
