Gavi signs contract through 2026

Madrid — On Wednesday, Barcelona midfielder Gavi signed a contract deal until June 2026 with a €1 billion release clause.

The 18-year-contract old’s was slated to expire at the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign.

Gavi has become a crucial player for the club since breaking through in August 2021. In October 2021, Luis Enrique gave Gavi his senior debut for Spain, making him the country’s youngest-ever senior player.

Gavi scored against the Czech Republic in June 2022, surpassing his club colleague Ansu Fati as Spain’s youngest ever striker.

Both players, along with Pedri, Ronald Araujo, and Ferran Torres, have a one billion euro release clause incorporated into their Barcelona contracts, the most costly in the history of world football.

Barcelona wanted to wait until Gavi reached 18 to finalize his contract, so it could be longer than three years. Additionally, the club had to clear space on their books to comply with La Liga’s own financial fair play laws.

Gavi has played 54 times for Barcelona and 10 times for Spain.
