Ferrari backs Binotto to win by 2026

Ferrari are making too many errors, but they have “great faith” in team manager Mattia Binotto and will be Formula One winners again by 2026, according to company president John Elkann.

Since 2008, the sport’s oldest and most successful team, which has been present since the championship’s inception in 1950, has not won the championship.

They had a promising start to the season, with Charles Leclerc winning two of the first three races, but have since been plagued by strategic errors, driving errors, and mechanical mishaps.

With seven races remaining, Leclerc is second, but 109 points behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Teammate Carlos Sainz is fifth and 26 seconds behind the Monaco team.

Binotto has been criticized in the media, with some calling his position into doubt, although Elkann has backed him.

Before Ferrari’s home Italian Grand Prix at Monza, he told the Gazzetta dello Sport, “We have great faith in Mattia Binotto and appreciate everything he and all our engineers have accomplished.”

“The work at Maranello, in the garage, on the pit wall, and behind the wheel must undoubtedly be improved.

“The mechanics, engineers, and drivers, as well as the complete management team, including the team’s leader, must continue to make advancements.

The choice to put our faith in Binotto and his team paid off, as we are now competing and winning again. However, I am not happy, as I believe we can always do better.

Elkann stated that dependability might be enhanced and expressed optimism for the future.

“Therefore, I believe that before 2026 Ferrari will win the constructors’ and drivers’ championships again, with Charles Leclerc in the lead,” he stated.

Elkann is the chief executive officer of Exor, the holding company owned by the Agnelli family, which also controls Serie A side Juventus.

Elkann encouraged coach Massimiliano Allegri to get the Italians back on track after they opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain this week.

“Juve is through a new cycle, as has occurred numerous times throughout the century-long history that connects my family to the white and black shirt,” he stated.

“As a coach, Allegri is intimately familiar with the club and its typical spirit of persistence and strength.”
