Gang of dangerous thugs torture man for six hours

A gang of dangerous thugs tortured a man for six hours using a flamethrower, knives, boiling salt water, and even a dog have been jailed.

Charlie Saunter, William O’Brien, and Kai Haruna attacked their victim in a Gravesend flat in Kent on July 5, 2020, over a drug-related dispute.

During the brutal attack, the trio burned, slashed, and mutilated the victim’s genitals, and Haruna repeatedly jumped on the victim’s chest until he lost consciousness. O’Brien also used his dog to stop the man from escaping.

The sickening abuse was recorded and shared online, but detectives uncovered it days later.

At their sentencing hearing at Maidstone Crown Court in Kent, it was revealed that the three men had tortured their victim in a dispute over money or drugs.

Two days after the attack, the police received video evidence of the incident, which had been shared on social media, and arrested the trio the same day.

During the arrests, officers seized two knives and quantities of heroin and cocaine. One officer was also injured after being bitten by a dog.

All three young men were charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Saunter and Haruna admitted the charge, while O’Brien initially denied it but later changed his plea to guilty. Saunter also admitted a separate possession charge with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine.

Their sentences also considered two cases involving thefts and further acts of violence.

Saunter, from Pevensey in East Sussex, was sentenced to 13 years and six months in jail, while O’Brien, from Greenwich, received 11 years.

From Grove Park in London, Haruna was given eight years and three months. All three will serve at least two-thirds of their jail time before they are eligible for parole and will be subject to an extended license period of four years upon their release.

Detective Constable, John Carless of Kent Police’s County Line and Gangs Team, described the trio as violent and dangerous criminals without regard for the law. He added that the case was a stark reminder of the violent crimes involved in the supply of drugs.
