As her husband, rapper JJC Skillz, also known as Abdulrasheed Bello, announces their separation, Funke Akindele stays mute. Through his official Instagram account, JJC revealed the unexpected news that his marriage to Akindele has been experiencing issues for the past two years.
JJC Skillz said that he did his hardest to make it work but that there was nothing more that could be done at this point. Since the terrible news was revealed, Funke Akindele has been silent throughout all of this. JJC said that after moving out of their house on her request for more than three months, several matters, such as child custody and their company, remain unsolved.
Funke Akindele’s Marriage History
Funke Akindele and Adeola Kehinde Oloyede got married in 2012; they subsequently got divorced. The couple claimed that the reason for their divorce was irreconcilable differences.
In May 2016, three years after their engagement, Funke Akindele and Nigerian rapper JJC Skillz were wed in London. Prior to the tweet made by her husband JJC this morning, it was thought that they were content with their lives.
Funke Akindele’s Career
Funke Akindele also known as Jennifer for her popular role in Jenifa’s Dairy has been on the scene since 1998 for the role she played in the series ‘I Need To Know. In 2009, Funke won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and rose to fame for her role in the movie titled Jenifa.
Funke Akindele played the lead role in the Jenifa’s Diary that earned her the nickname Jenifa. She runs a nongovernmental organization known as the Jenifa Foundation, which aims at providing young people with vocational skills.
JJC’s Career
Bello was raised in Kano before relocating to the UK at the age of 14. Through the listening to his father’s music albums, he developed a passion and appreciation for music. While residing in the UK, he developed an interest in hip-hop music and together with a buddy formed a band.
Johnny Just Come is the acronym of his stage moniker, JJC, which Nigerians use to describe naive immigrants to big cities. Bello’s first substantial production effort was the Big Brovas Collective and Big Brovas Records, which he co-founded.
Atide, JJC Skillz’s debut album with the 419 squad, was released in 2004. He has written songs for Weird MC’s Ijoya, Tillaman’s Pu Yanga, and Buoqui’s Morile, among others. He also participated in the African music scene and worked on Afrobeats and Afropean (Afro-European fusion) projects.
The 2013 Nigerian entertainment award for best international act went to JJC Skillz. He established the JJC and the 419 squad, two supergroups from Africa. This group won the 2014 Kora All African Music Award.
JJC disclosed in his article that he was ejected from their home three months ago by Funke Akindele. He hasn’t been able to meet with her to continue the conversation since the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards on May 14, 2022. Look at his words:
“Dear Friends and family I need to let you know that Funke and I have separated. While it lasted we shared a lot of things together and have created 2 beautiful children. The last two years have been extremely difficult for us. I know I have tried my best to fix things but I believe it is beyond repair now. 3 months ago and at Funkes insistence I moved out of the house and apart from AMVCA have not been able to get Funke to sit down in an amicable manner to discuss the future of our relationship.”
I’m making this announcement so that the public is clear that we both are pursuing separate lives. We still have issues that need to be addressed such as the custody and wellbeing of our children which is paramount as well as business interests which need to be disentangled but I have no doubt that these will be resolved one way or the other. Mr Abdul Bello”
