Each week on the new Fox procedural “Alert: Missing Persons Unit,” a divorced couple (played by Dania Ramirez and Scott Caan) searches for missing people.
Ramirez, 43, told The Post, “I think what I love the most is that we get to portray a different type of couple.” “We are not a unit. Oftentimes, after the breakup of a couple on television, individuals struggle to locate a new spouse. We have effectively demonstrated that this is achievable.
She stated, “You can still co-parent, and we are business partners.” Relationships are complex; nothing is black and white.
The drama starts on Sunday, January 8 at 8 p.m., following the NFL on Fox, then moves to its normal Monday night schedule on Monday, January 9 at 9 p.m. It follows the Philadelphia Police Department’s MPU, or Missing Persons Unit. Each episode follows Nikki Batista (Ramirez) and her ex-husband Jason Grant (Caan, “Hawaii 5-0”) as they seek for a missing person, such as a man pushed into a woman’s car at gunpoint or a child abducted because of her father’s occupation. In the meantime, Nikki and Jason are also engaged in a season-long search to uncover the truth about their missing son, who vanished six years before to the events of the episode. This tragedy caused the dissolution of their marriage, yet unlike many other divorced couples, they continue to love one another without animosity.
Ramirez (“Entourage,” “Heroes,” “The Sopranos,” and “Devious Maids”) of Los Angeles stated, “At this point in my career, I prefer roles that excite me in a very natural way.”
“Being a mother myself is primarily what attracted me to the role. Nikki is a woman whose son has died… This motivates her to assist others in locating their children. When you have children, your passion for living simply changes. Constantly, you do something for other people. There is nothing superior to that.
She added, “I felt I had something to say and a lot of life experience to draw from for this role.” “If something were to happen to me, what would be the best course of action? I adore the fact that Nikki does not view herself as a victim for what has occurred to her, but rather as a victor for her ability to overcome it. And she maintains her dream of finding her own child by assisting others in their search. I believe that is a wonderful way to look at something tragic.”
Ramirez stated that Nikki would develop and progress as the season develops.
“Nikki is such a badass. “She is my boss, my friend, my mother, my ex-wife, and my lover,” she explained. “When you first meet her, she appears to have lost everything because her son was abducted. She is brave and takes on every case since she has nothing to lose. As the season progresses, it becomes clear that she wants to change. She desires to be less irresponsible.
I believe you’ll sympathize with her challenges and root for her to succeed.
