Former Obama adviser David Axelrod claimed that Democrats are now complaining more about the White House due to their worry and ‘panic’ over the upcoming midterm elections.
He recognized criticisms that the Biden administration had appeared unable to deal with a contentious Supreme Court decision on abortion and other issues, but claimed that President Biden’s power to stoke the ire of some Americans was constrained.
He said on Friday on CNN’s “New Day” that when Democrats picked Joe Biden, “he was elected for the very things he’s being chastised for.”
After the turbulent years under Donald Trump, he was viewed as a cool, conciliational figure, which helped him win the election. He supports collaboration across party lines. A day after Biden presented a posthumous Medal of Freedom to 2008 GOP nominee John McCain, whom Obama defeated alongside Biden on the ticket, he observed, “He’s not a guy who is given to, you know, public outbursts.”
The spin-meister said, “Frankly, when people ask why he isn’t more angry out there, you know, when he tries to do that, you know, he comes off like Clint Eastwood in Grand Torino chasing kids off the yard.” He is not like that, I say.
He was alluding to the crude 2008 scene in which Clint Eastwood’s shotgun-toting character orders some thugs to “get off my lawn now!”
“Biden is a calm individual. He believes in institutions. People are getting frustrated because he is acting like one might anticipate,” Axelrod continued.
He stated, in reference to the anxiety felt by Democrats, “Fear and panic is what’s driving it. People are concerned about the midterm elections, and Capitol Hill, where many members are up for reelection in November, is the source of much of the clamor. that’s a component of it.
He also expressed pity for the White House personnel who had deal with the new administration. Despite holding control of the White House and Congress, Democrats have been unable to circumvent Senate filibuster laws or a Supreme Court with a 6-3 conservative majority.
Biden on Friday called for people to express their frustration at the ballot box, and called for electing two more pro-choice senators.
He spoke out against the court. What we were seeing, according to Biden, “was not a constitutional decision; it was an exercise in naked political power.” We cannot allow freedoms and our individual autonomy to be taken away by an out-of-control Supreme Court working with radical Republican party members.
