Foreigners are scheduled to appear in court for the murder of a Bloemfontein businessman

Three suspects between the ages of 26 and 33 have been arrested for the alleged murder of a Bloemfontein businessman and will make their initial court appearance on Tuesday.

Tumelo Phiri, an entrepreneur, owned the By Hoek Lounge.

According to police accounts, Phiri was closing his store early on Sunday morning when an unidentified foreign national approached him and opened fire. Phiri died instantly.

Colonel Thabo Covane, a police spokeswoman, stated that the 45-year-old businessman intervened when a fight broke out in the lounge earlier, only to be threatened by the suspect, who promised to return for him.

“While the suspect was shooting at Phiri, a spectator sustained a hand wound. The 30-year-old male suspect was located and apprehended in Mafora, Mangaung, according to Covane.

“Two other suspects, ages 26 and 33, were apprehended as murder accomplices. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at the police station in Mangaung. As all three accused are foreign nationals, additional charges of obstructing justice and violation of the Immigration Act have been added.

The men are expected to appear before the magistrate in Bloemfontein.
