A red four-wheel-drive vehicle jumps into the right lane of the freeway, narrowly avoiding the front of a large truck, according to dashcam footage.
The car merges so close to the truck that the driver’s view of the back of the car is obscured.
‘Pulling in front of any vehicle with this much notice would be a bad choice — but a truck moving this fast?’ the department wondered in its Facebook post.
Drivers who break the laws on multi-lane highways endanger their personal safety as well as the safety of other road users, according to the report.
Some Twitter users claimed the car’s driver was breaking basic traffic laws, while others claimed the truck driver was at fault.
‘Not leaving enough room for a safe lane change.’ Inability to communicate. ‘Death wish,’ said one user.
‘It’s a miracle Red 4WD is still alive after that stunt, but what is a massive (speed-restricted) truck doing in the fast/inside lane?’ another user commented.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads advised drivers to brush up on their driving rules so they can safely share the road with large vehicles.
