Florida murder suspect is arrested while at church

A Florida murder suspect was arrested at church on Sunday morning, and before being taken to jail, he shared a prayer with the sergeant who arrested him, according to authorities.

The incident occurred in Polk County when sheriff deputies went inside the church in search of John Skeen, a 56-year-old murder suspect.

Skeen was spotted and agreed to go outside without disrupting the service.

The service was being attended by the deputies’ boss, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

Skeen was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting and killing his friend during a fishing trip.

After leaving the church, Skeen asked a sergeant if he could attend the rest of the service to “dedicate his life to the Lord before going to jail.”

The sergeant dismissed this request but agreed to pray with Skeen before booking him back at headquarters.

Sheriff Judd was at the church as a guest speaker during the service. Skeen is accused of fatally shooting his friend during a verbal altercation on Friday while they were on a fishing trip.

Skeen is facing a second-degree murder with a firearm charge. Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement that “violence is never the solution to a disagreement.

Our hearts are with this victim’s family, and we hope this arrest will bring some sense of closure to the loved ones.”
