The foreign ministry spokesman of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, has invited Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, to visit Ukraine after he referred to the war between Ukraine and Russia as a ‘territorial dispute’ and called on the federal government to focus on domestic issues.
DeSantis has distanced himself from high-profile Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, by stating that American assistance to Ukraine is not a ‘vital national security interest’.

The Florida governor’s comments were made during an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, where he also stated that the US should not provide assistance that could require the deployment of American troops or enable Ukraine to engage in offensive operations beyond its borders.
He argued that becoming further entangled in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia could draw the US into a hot war between the world’s two largest nuclear powers.
The invitation from Ukraine comes after the tragic loss of over 14,000 Ukrainian lives due to the Russian invasion. The country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, continues to call for more long-range weapons and ammunition to defend his country.
