Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis comes out on top of hypothetical 9-person GOP primary field, defeats Trump

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis leads a hypothetical GOP primary field and defeats former President Donald Trump by a significant margin in a head-to-head matchup, according to a recent poll.

The survey by WPA Intelligence found that 40% of Republican primary voters across the nation support DeSantis to win the party’s 2024 White House nomination, with 31% backing Trump.

Of the nine individuals included in the poll, no other GOP figure received double-digit support. In a face-off between DeSantis and Trump, 57% picked DeSantis, and 33% went for Trump.

The poll also indicated that 73% of Republican voters viewed DeSantis as one of their top three choices for 2024, while 52% held the same view for Trump. The survey polled 1,000 GOP primary voters from February 13 to 16, with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
