Five teenagers and one 12-year-old face court after crashing an allegedly stolen BMW

Following the alleged theft of a BMW, five teenagers and one 12-year-old will appear in court.

On Wednesday about 12:20 PM, a black BMW SUV carrying seven occupants crashed into the garage of a house in Oxley, Brisbane.

At around 9 am, police received a report that the allegedly stolen car was being driven “dangerously” close to Blackbutt, which is north of Brisbane. As a result, police tracked the car from a helicopter.

Inspector Karl Hahne said, ‘In its efforts to avoid police, the car has come into the backstreets here in Oxley and at this stage our investigations suggest that it’s lost control, gone through some barricades here at the park, and then gone into a house and collected another car in the garage’.

Fortunately, the resident of the Oxley residence, a man in his 50s, was not hit by the car but was injured by flying debris from the collision.

He was given treatment for his chest pains at Princess Alexandra Hospital and his health was stable.

The seven people inside the car were taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital for assessment and were treated for soft tissue damage.

Neighbour Adam Jones said he rushed to see the accident after hearing a loud bang.

‘There were police everywhere – four or five police cars,’ he told Courier Mail.

‘As soon as they crashed they were all out of the car, so when police came they didn’t really know what was going on.’

Another neighbour claimed to have heard the crash from her residence as well.

‘I had the plumber round and he told me to come look … the plumber said he thought a meth lab had exploded! It was a good big sound,’ she said.

Without going into specifics, Insp. Hahne claimed that the car was taken from Paddington on Tuesday and utilised in a number of offences.

On Thursday, the 12-year-old and five other teenagers will appear in Richlands Children’s Court to answer for their roles in the collision.

The suspected driver of the BMW, a 15-year-old Crestmead boy, was charged with one count each of illegal use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, careless conduct causing harm, and acts intended to obstruct lawful arrest.

Three counts of willful damage and two counts of theft were also brought against him.

A 12-year-old Kingston boy was charged with two charges of stealing and two counts of using a vehicle without permission.

Four teenage boys: 14-year-old child from Wondai, a 13-year-old from Regents Park, a 13-year-old from Crestmead, and a 13-year-old from Murgon—were each charged with one count of using a vehicle without permission and two counts of stealing.

The seventh occupant of the car has not been charged by police.

Police have asked anyone with relevant information to call Crime Stoppers as they continue their investigation into the crash’s circumstances.
