Fisherman drowns in the KZN river while casting his net

IPSS Medical Search and Rescue teams and K9 units of the South African Police Service (SAPS) have recovered the body of a fisherman who drowned in the Tinley Manor river mouth on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident occurred early on the morning of Sunday, January 8, 2023.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue, eyewitnesses said that the man was casting his net when he disappeared beneath the water and drowned. His fellow fisherman could not locate him, and IPSS Medical was contacted.

“IPSS Medical Search and Rescue turned over the body to the local SAPS for further investigation.” Our condolences go out to the friends and family of the fisherman.”

Also, the body of a three-month-old infant who drowned in the Jukskei River has yet to be retrieved.

In a separate instance, a father tragically perished at Glenmore Beach in Port Edward, KwaZulu-Natal, while attempting to save his son.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) reported that upon arrival at the scene, it was established that five good Samaritans had saved a boy aged 11 and his father, aged 38, from the waves.

“Good Samaritans began cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the father.” Unfortunately, paramedics pronounced the patient dead.

“Medical treatment proceeded on the 11-year-old who was carried to the hospital by a Netcare 911 ambulance in a critical but stable condition. The youngster is likely to recover completely.”

In a separate occurrence, the body of a fourth child who drowned on Kariega beach in Kenton on Sea, Eastern Cape, on January 1, 2023, has been discovered.

A member of the public discovered the body of 11-year-old Anovuyo Cira on Thursday, January 5 around 05:00.
