Fish Hoek Beach is blocked due to a sewage overflow

The section of Fish Hoek Beach in Cape Town between the lifeguard station and Jager Walk has been temporarily closed owing to a sewage overflow.

The Beach was closed till further notice on January 2, 2022.

FISH HOEK BEACH HAS BEEN CLOSED
The brief closure, according to the City of Cape Town, was caused by a blocked sewer line that has since been cleared.

Plastics and other debris were extracted from the sewer line. The public has been warned to refrain from illegal dumping and to dispose of their trash using the available solid waste services or to bring recyclables to the City’s drop-off locations.

According to reports, various departments in the City of Cape Town have been mobilized in response to this occurrence, including the clearance of the obstruction. In addition, a jet truck has been despatched to help mitigate the effects of the overflow.

As a precaution, the previously indicated part of Fish Hoek Beach is currently closed.

“City Health will collect daily water samples for water quality monitoring until the levels meet the minimal requirements for recreational activities, as specified by the National Water Quality Guidelines.” “Until further notice, the public is recommended to avoid contact with the water in this section.”

The municipality of Cape Town
Any individual who enters the water does so at their own risk, as contact with the water could potentially cause stomach problems.

“Health warning signs have been up to inform the public of the situation. We appreciate the cooperation of the public during this period. The City regrets any inconvenience this may give beachgoers,” the City stated.
