Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of President Bola Tinubu, has confirmed her plans to host a dinner for the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, ahead of their departure for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
This news was reported by Naija News and affirmed by the Head of Communications of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire.
Details of the Gathering
The statement from Olajire indicated that the dinner, arranged by Nigeria’s football governing body, would take place on Saturday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
This event will be graced by high-ranking government officials and sports authorities.
The Road to the World Cup
The upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to kick off on July 20 and continue until August 20, 2023.
The Super Falcons are slated to leave Nigeria following the dinner, embarking on a 15-day training program in Australia before entering the tournament camp.
Expected Attendees and Tournament Schedule
Prominent figures from the sports community, including the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Ismaila Abubakar, are expected to attend the send-off dinner.
Representatives from the NFF, corporate heads, diplomats, and numerous football stakeholders will also be present at the event.
Nigeria’s first game in the tournament will be against Canada at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium on July 21, followed by matches against Australia and the Republic of Ireland on July 27 and July 31 respectively, at Lang Park in Brisbane.
