Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto says trust between Russia and the European Union can be restored over time

Over time, trust between Russia and the EU can be rebuilt. Pekka Haavisto, the foreign minister of Finland, expressed this viewpoint in an interview with El Mundo.

The Finnish Embassy in Moscow is still open, the Minister emphasised, and the border between Finland and Russia is currently relatively calm.

“We have many families on both sides of the border, we must remember this at the human level, regardless of disagreements at the political level,” he urged.

Haavisto claims that trust vanished following the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine and that it will take time to rebuild it.

“I am convinced that someday this trust will return, but it is very difficult to say how and when,” he said.
