Female guard and nurse, both 25, accused of romance with same inmate

Two young female prison employees were charged in court of having extramarital affairs with a Romeo prisoner.

Nurse Elyse Hibbs and custodial officer Ruth Shmylo, both 25 years old, have been charged with misconduct for allegedly engaging in “inappropriate interactions” while employed at the jail.

The two ladies were reportedly engaged with the same convict at Parc Prison, category B, in Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales, but he is not identified in court documents.

The alleged five-month romance between Shmylo and Hibbs is believed to have occurred between December 2021 and April 2021, and then between May and July 2021.

Hibbs, a registered nurse, is accused of misbehavior while employed at two prisons 210 miles apart, HMP Parc and HMP Manchester, often known as Strangeways.

The charge against Hibbs reads as follows: ‘While operating as a public official, prison nurse, engaged in conduct that constituted an abuse of the public’s confidence in the office holder by engaging in an improper relationship with a prisoner.’

The complaint against Shmylo reads, ‘While serving as a public officer, namely a prison custody officer, engaged in behavior that constituted an abuse of the public’s confidence in the office holder by engaging in an improper connection with a prisoner.’

No lady has yet entered a plea in response to the common law accusations.

Hibbs, of Newbridge, Gwent, and Shmylo, of Pontypridd, will appear on September 13 at Cardiff Crown Court.
