Following his imprisonment, George Roberts, the star of Married at First Sight UK, continued to appear in sequences that were shown on E4.
The 40-year-old was detained on Thursday on suspicion of engaging in coercive and controlling behavior, but according to E4 executives, pre-recorded episodes starring him and his TV wife April Banbury will still air.
Father-of-four Roberts, a financial advisor, has been granted bail by Scotland Yard despite his denial of any involvement.
Social media has been a platform for some viewers to vent their “disgust” at the broadcaster for continuing the pre-recorded program starring him.
I’m watching #MAFSUK, and it’s difficult to see George provide counsel knowing that he was just arrested for coercive control, one user said. I’m curious as to why they didn’t re-edit.
Another person commented: “I find it utterly revolting that Channel 4 continues to air episodes of Married at First Sight with George Roberts after he has been charged with cruelty.”
A third wrote: “George is flashing his red flag and giving people nothing but grief and anguish, and Channel 4 and MAFS simply let it continue… what’s a bit of mental health harm when you’re bringing in the viewers?!”
After their first encounter at the altar on the popular program, Roberts wed the former Ms Great Britain, 33, in a non-binding ceremony.
Viewers have been enthralled by their friendship, but others are labeling the choice to keep airing his sequences as “absolutely repulsive.”
Despite three women who had had connections with Mr. Roberts in the past allegedly expressed concerns about him, he appeared on the E4 program.
According to reports, more people have already spoken forward.
A 40-year-old male was detained in Worcestershire on Thursday, September 29, on suspicion of using coercive and controlling behavior, according to a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman. He was brought to a police station and released on bail awaiting further investigation.
The divorced father of four Mr. Roberts wed Ms. Banbury on the program before taking a Caribbean vacation.
E4 executives have chosen to keep showing the pre-recorded program every weekday despite his imprisonment.
Ms. Banbury made the suggestion that the relationship was finished over the weekend.
Ms. Banbury is “having a really terrible time” and “doesn’t want to ever see him again,” a source close to her told The Sun.
Another source for the program said they were unaware of the charges against Mr. Roberts prior to his on-screen marriage to Ms. Banbury.
However, one of his ex-girlfriends made the opposite assertion.
