According to The Sun, a Married at First Sight UK celebrity has been detained on suspicion of using coercive and controlling conduct.
On the popular dating program, George Roberts, 40, wed April Banbury, a total stranger.
However, the father of four was detained by London’s Metropolitan police before to the UK broadcast of the show’s final episode after three ex-partners reported Roberts for engaging in coercive and controlling conduct.
According to Worchestershire Police “On Thursday, September 29, Met officers detained a 40-year-old male in Worcestershire on suspicion of using coercive and controlling conduct.
“He was brought to a Worcestershire police station and released on bail with instructions to return awaiting more investigations. This is in response to a complaint of harassment and coercive conduct made to the Met on Monday, September 26.”
The program has continued to broadcast as normal ever since the claims were made public, and Channel 4 has not reacted to Insider’s request for comment.
According to Mail Online, Ms. Banbury hinted at the end of the relationship with Roberts over the weekend by posting on Instagram about “traumas” related to the MAFS experience.
Since then, I have been seeing a therapist, I’m not afraid to disclose it, the former beauty queen told Mail Online.
Roberts, according to a spokesman for him, told the Mirror “vehemently refutes these accusations.
He “finds these allegations profoundly troubling as a parent of girls and does neither condone abuse nor act in that manner.”
The UK charity Women’s Aid responded to the claims of arrest on Twitter by writing: “TV producers have a duty to convey clear signals to participants and viewers that harmful practices like coercive control will not be accepted in any form.”
Before Mr. Roberts wed Ms. Banbury on the program, a show source told the Mail Online that they were unaware of any charges against him.
