Family looking for answers after 5-yr-old girl died suddenly from tummy bug

A five-year-old girl, Isabella Grace Docherty, died suddenly after what her family thought was a tummy bug, leaving her devastated family in search of answers. Bella, as she was affectionately known, collapsed at home in Newarthill, North Lanarkshire, a few hours after falling ill.

Bella’s mother, Pamela Little, said they initially thought it was nothing major and assumed Bella had a vomiting bug. On the night of the incident, Bella’s father took her downstairs as she was struggling to sleep in her bed, and she suddenly threw up and collapsed. Despite the paramedics’ best efforts to save her life, Bella passed away on February 13 at Wishaw General Hospital.

The family had discovered a non-life-threatening abnormality on Bella’s brain stem during an MRI scan the previous year, but doctors informed them that it was not related to her death.

Bella’s post-mortem results were inconclusive, and the family is still waiting for the results of further tests. Pamela, who also has two older children, said not knowing what happened is “killing them inside.”

The family is heartbroken, and a fundraising page has been set up to help pay for Bella’s funeral. Her mother described her youngest child as “our funny, caring little diva,” and the family wants the world to know how amazing she was.
