A disgruntled remodeling client covered her front yard with banners criticizing the organization in charge of her “ex-tent-ion” house.
Jill Harris said that over two years ago, she contracted with Extension Factory to build an additional story onto her modest Upper Ferntree Gully property.
Sadly, a string of setbacks caused the project to be continually delayed, and Ms. Harris is now stuck with a “manufactured swimming pool” in place of a home that leaks water on her when it rains.
She now lives with her kid in the crumbling, mold-filled, and always leaking labyrinth of tarpaulin.
She told A Current Affair on Tuesday, “I call this the tent, I live in the tent, because there is no roof over my room or my son’s room.”
Ms. Harris said that the only way she can respond to the business is by staging her chaotic house to seem like a life-sized negative review.
The home is described as a “health danger” and as “ruining lives” on signs affixed to her fence, all under the imaginative name of the “Extension Factory.”
Owner of Extension Factory Gerry Hoggard acknowledged that there were issues with the refurbishment.
He remarked, “It was definitely a mistake; it was erected improperly, and we took responsibility and pulled it down.”
Mr. Hoggard said that Ms. Harris and her brother, a former employee of the business, share some of the culpability since they refused to move during the refurbishment because “it’s not the type of job you would leave someone inhabiting the premises.”
The addition is still not moving forward, and a surveyor has ordered that it be put on hold due to “owner(s) and their builders non-compliances with the building laws.”
Ms. Harris has no idea when or even if her house will ever be completed.
“Just give me back my house, or even what I had.” I had a life then, at least,” she remarked.
