Expert exposes Australia’s worst jobs

Factory workers and receptionists were among the most underpaid positions on a list of the top five poorest paying jobs in Australia.

Based on the number of hours and level of effort necessary to perform the duties, Li Liang compiled a list of the occupations that, in his opinion, underpay their employees.

The father is a former science teacher who now provides his social media followers with life, career, and financial advice.

He said in a TikTok video, “Here are the top five worst occupations in Australia in terms of income.”

Fifth place went to an administrative assistant, whose average annual compensation, according to Mr. Liang, is just under $48,000.

He said, “These individuals do everything in the workplace.”

“Everything,” including planning a meeting, organising a lunch reservation, and scheduling a trip.

“Ask any manager or executive, and they’ll tell you that they’d rip their hair out if they didn’t have a decent administrative assistant, which suggests that these folks are seriously underrated.”

A shop worker or retail assistant came in at number four, earning little over $48,000 annually.

These individuals, according to Mr. Liang, “are incredibly crucial for the customer experience since they are the first faces you encounter when you go into a business.”

“Most of the employees here will be young and temporary, which makes them very susceptible to underpayment.”

Factory employees, with an average yearly wage of slightly over $48,000, came in third.

‘Factory employees aren’t as exploited here as they are elsewhere because of Australia’s strict labour rules,’ Mr. Liang added.

However, despite Australia’s strict labour rules, manufacturing employees continue to earn among the lowest wages in the country.

Second on the list were receptionists, with an average salary of just $47,000.

Despite the fact that they serve as the company’s public face, receptionists are still crucial, according to Mr. Liang.

You would expect that businesses would appreciate and pay more for someone who often interacts with customers over the phone, through email, and in person.

Mr. Liang classified picker-packers as having the lowest paying employment, with an annual salary of just $46,000.

Because they work in a warehouse, he said that these employees are an essential part of the supply chain.

They guarantee that everything in the warehouse is delivered on schedule.

Top five jobs with the lowest pay

According to Li Liang, the top five lowest-paying occupations in Australia might earn as little as $48,000 per year.

How Mr. Liang arrived at the salaries is unknown.

Social media users quickly added jobs that they thought were underpaying personnel to the list.

The proposals included call centre employees, childcare providers, and service providers.

Some people disputed with Mr. Liang, claiming that some of the employees on the list earned far more than what he stated they were paid.

One commented, “You have no clue lol, pick packers are on around 75kish.”

Work at a warehouse or factory and make $77,000 a year, another person said.

Retail employees, administrative assistants, manufacturing workers, and receptionists may all earn up to $60,000 annually on average, according to the job search engine Seek.

Earnings for picker packers might reach $55,000.
