Eva Green Wins $1 Million High Court Battle Against Producers Over Sci-Fi Thriller

Eva Green, a Hollywood actress, has won her $1 million High Court battle with film producers over a sci-fi thriller that collapsed before filming.

Green had signed up for the lead role in A Patriot, which was set to feature Helen Hunt and Charles Dance, with a $10 million budget and filming locations in Ireland.

However, production was halted in 2019, just before filming was due to begin, following a falling-out between Green and executive producers Jake Seal and Terry Bird.

Green sued for her $1 million fee, while Seal, Bird, and financiers White Lantern counterclaimed that she had deliberately sabotaged the film.

Mr Justice Michael Green ruled in favour of Green, stating that she should receive her fee and dismissing the counter-allegations that she had caused the film’s failure.

He added that Green had “desperately wanted to make the film” and even considered giving up her fee to gain control of the script and make the film in the way she and the former directors wanted.

Although Green made some unpleasant comments about Seal and his crew, it was due to her concern that any film made under Seal’s control would be of low quality and would not do justice to the script.

Embarrassing WhatsApp messages exchanged between Green and her associates were also revealed during the trial.

Green denied claims of diva behaviour and blamed the producers for the project’s collapse, while also claiming that the cutting of stunt preparations had risked a disaster similar to the fatal shooting on Alec Baldwin’s Rust.

Damien Creagh, a production designer, stated that he had been promised an art department budget of £805,000 and filming largely on location in Ireland, but found production had been shifted to Black Hangar studio in Hampshire, with no permanent sound-proofing.

Plans were in place to recycle scenery and props from Black Hangar’s recent production of Salvage Marines.

The ruling demonstrates the importance of contractual agreements and the consequences of not fulfilling them.

Green had signed up for the lead role in A Patriot, with hopes of a $10 million budget and filming locations in Ireland, which were not fulfilled due to the project’s collapse.

It also highlights the need for clear communication and cooperation between all parties involved in a film production to ensure its success.

The trial and ruling have resulted in a public airing of the film’s collapse and the unpleasant exchanges between Green and the producers, which could potentially impact her career.
