Eskom will keep withdrawing 5,000 MW from the grid

Up until at least 05:00 on Saturday, September 24, Eskom will keep removing 5,000 megawatts of power from the national grid.

According to a statement from spokeswoman Sikonathi Mantshantsha, Eskom will announce its load shedding schedule for the remainder of the weekend and for the next week on Friday afternoon.

The record-breaking number of power outages this week, according to Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan, should finish by the weekend.

Eskom conducts rolling blackouts when it can’t keep up with demand to prevent the system from completely collapsing, which may lead to an extended outage.

Gordhan said that there was “absolutely no danger” of such occurring.
