Eritrea: Forestry and Wildlife Authority held a workshop in the port city of Massawa to go over the current state of the nation’s forestry and wildlife resources

On July 15, the Forestry and Wildlife Authority held a workshop in the port city of Massawa to go over the current state of the nation’s forestry and wildlife resources.

Col. Kinfe Habtom, Manager of the Authority, stated during a workshop attended by heads of administration and partners that conservation of forests and wildlife contribute significantly to the economic development of the nation and urged for an integrated effort for a better result.

Col. Kinfe also expressed hope that the nationwide greening initiative, in which the public is actively participating, will make a substantial contribution to improving the environment.

Research papers describing the state of the nation’s woods as well as the public’s degree of comprehension have been presented at the workshop.

According to the research, Eritrea is home to 600 different bird species and 126 different primate species.

The investigation also revealed that 23 different species of fauna and 56 different native tree species are in danger of going extinct.

The participants, for their part, had a lengthy debate on the research papers that were given and approved a number of proposals, such as creating more reserved lands and putting real effort into preventing unlawful tree cutting.
