Erik Ten Hag has no difficulty in benching players

Luke Shaw, a defender for Manchester United, said that manager Erik Ten Hag has no qualms about benching ineffective players and that, in contrast to prior campaigns, no one is promised a starting position.

Both captain Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo, who led United in goals scored with 24 last season, have had longer time on the bench this year.

According to Shaw, Ten Hag made sure that players gave their all each and every day in an effort to make the team.

In an interview with the National that was published on Monday, he said, “The wonderful thing with this manager is that if you’re not performing well then you won’t play.”

“In the past, that wasn’t the case, but I believe the nice thing about this manager is that he’s keeping everyone on their toes and making sure that everyone is 100% every day. If you’re not at it, then you won’t play. That’s a wonderful thing,” the player said.

Shaw has also been a bench player this year.

In August, he was benched after consecutive losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. Since then, he has battled his way back into the lineup and started the past two league games.

Honestly, Shaw said, “I didn’t really need (Ten Hag) to say anything to me. “I fully recognized that it was time for me to leave the squad since I knew the first two games were far from satisfactory.

“The outcomes were poor, and my efforts fell short. Just keep working hard every day in the gym so the management can see how hard you are working.

On Wednesday, fifth-placed United will play host to third-place Tottenham Hotspur.
