England international Danny Care criticized Wales’ performance

On Monday, March 7, England international Danny Care criticized Wales’ performance against England in the Six Nations, claiming that Italy should be favourites to win against Wales in their upcoming game.

Speaking on the Rugby Union Daily podcast, Care expressed disbelief at Wales’ poor performance against England, stating they seemed tactically unprepared.

He also suggested that Italy, who are yet to win a game this tournament, was a more exciting team to watch and would likely beat Wales unless Wales performed exceptionally.

Italy captain Michele Lamaro, however, warned that Italy needed to be at their best to beat a “wounded” Wales side.

Despite Wales sitting at the bottom of the table, Lamaro acknowledged they were still a strong team with experienced and skilled players.

He added that the Welsh players had shown passion and worked well together in their match against England, despite a difficult situation with the Welsh Rugby Union.

In other news, former Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt is reportedly considering applying for the All Blacks job, with current coach Ian Foster not reapplying after this year’s World Cup.

While Crusaders boss Scott Robertson has long been considered the favourite for the role, Schmidt’s impressive CV outside of New Zealand, combined with the backing of senior All-Black players, could strengthen his position.

France back-row Anthony Jelonch is a doubt for this year’s World Cup after undergoing surgery for a serious knee injury sustained during the Six Nations win over Scotland. His former teammate, Gauthier Doubrere, shared a photo on Instagram of Jelonch in a hospital room, stating that he was doing well.

Finally, former Swansea boss John Plumtree is set to return to South African URC side the Cell C Sharks as head coach.

Plumtree has previously coached the Sharks and the Wellington, Ireland, and All Blacks teams. He is expected to take up the role in July.
