Elton Jantjies, Springbok flyhalf, entered Cape Town drug rehab

According to a Sunday publication, Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies is being treated for drug addiction in a Cape Town rehabilitation clinic as his teammates prepare for a tour of Europe.

Last month, Jantjies was called home from the Springbok headquarters in Argentina to deal with a scandal that surfaced in the Rapport. According to the Rapport, Jantjies and Bok dietitian Zeeant Simjee were partying in a Nelspruit guesthouse.

Then, on the day the Boks were scheduled to play the Pumas in Buenos Aires, the media began speculating that Rapport would publish a piece alleging cocaine use by some Springboks.

This story was never published, but now the newspaper has stated that a server at the inn has alleged that Jantjies offered him/her illegal substances.

The waitress protested about the offer to Rapport’s source, who witnessed it.

Two credible sources have confirmed to Rapport that Jantjies checked himself into the Harmony clinic in Hout Bay two weeks ago and is currently undergoing drug addiction treatment.

Jantjies explained to the media (from rehabilitation) last week that he understood why he was not selected for the November tour of Ireland, Italy, France, and England.

Given the extensive coverage of my omission from the Springbok squad and the coaching staff’s clarification that I was not eligible for selection, he stated, “I fully understand and accept the decision.”
