Dating Experts Claim Putting Husbands First is Key to Long Marriage

Renowned dating experts Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider, known for their influential 1990s dating guide The Rules, have come back with an updated version of their book.

Originally published in 1995, The Rules shared ‘time-tested secrets for capturing the heart of Mr Right’.

However, the guide, which advised against talking to a man first and not asking him to dance, divided public opinion.

Despite the criticisms, the book was an instant bestseller and sold four million copies in 27 languages.

It also featured on Oprah, Sex And The City, and was used by superstar Beyoncé.

The book also adds that strong businesswomen should switch from ‘masculine to feminine mode’ when they get home and complete tasks such as setting the table, cooking dinner, and asking nicely to clean up.

Hierarchy in Marriage

According to the book, romantic relationships are based on biology and not finance.

There’s a hierarchy that goes back to caveman days, and if women act too bossy or overbearing, they will emasculate their husbands, and their marriage will suffer.

The authors advise both parties to agree that the husband or partner is the decision-maker and the wife or partner is his key supportive team member, even if she makes more money.

Criticism and ‘Trad Wife’ Movement

Despite many finding these gender roles old-fashioned, the ‘trad wife’ movement has been trending lately among young women on TiKTok.

Many women have spoken out to say they enjoy the lifestyle, including Estee Williams, who recently said she loves to spend hours each day cooking and cleaning for her husband
